i think osgood provoked it by throwing the end of his stick in the guys face as he skated by. then he overreacted to something that was unlikely to hurt him at all since he has a lot of pads on his chest. i dont’ think there should be a suspension at all. its hockey, let them play. if the wings are that upset about then mccarty can go fight the guy.
i guess ozzie got what was coming to him for that first shot. i certainly hope this translates to some kind of mental breakdown which results in bench clearing fisticuffs of the highest quality. at least around the 2nd period, when we have a two goal lead. man up. it is hockey, not the NBA. osgood is fine.
I tried posting earlier and it didn’t work. Basically i agree with what’s been said. Ozzie was clearly trying to run some interference on the guy and slow him down to protect his defenseman. I don’t think he was trying to catch the guy in the face.
I’m fine with no suspensions either way. It will be interesting to see if this escalates things any more than usually happens over the course of a series.
i dont know if i can ever be friends with any of you ever again. the man paul bunyoned osgood in the chest. if that was your precious lebron james who suffered a shove while trying to dunk everyone would be up in arms (im pointing at pat, kenny and jerry here) it doesnt matter if osgood was trying to protect his defensemen, or if he called riberio a pussy and then said he raped his wife. you dont ax hack some dude in the chest. and osgood is a crafty veteran and took a dive when that happened, smart move. i home mccarty busts riberios face open. then he comes to this blog and tells you all are a disgrace to fandom of your HOME TEAM.
go cheer for the stars guys. seriously, i dont know any of you.
man zach i’m not condoning the slash, i’m just saying it didn’t warrant a suspension. If it happened during the game he would have probably gotten 5 minutes and deservedly so. But you’re not allowed to assess penalties that carry over to the next game and I don’t think it was suspension worthy.
Obviously I didn’t want to see ozzie get suspended, but that doesn’t stop me from forming an objective opinion about the incident.
Agreed, objectively, whether osgood tried to or not, he caught the guy in the face with the butt-end of his goalie stick. The guy retaliated and retaliation is always bad and always looks way worse. But its hockey, there shouldn’t be any suspension, those things happen. Lets play the game.
Also, if i only wish one of the pistons would have at least knocked lebron over during last years ECF. No free buckets like the days of the bad boys, if the cavs somehow beat the celtics we should call up chuck and have him send over a printed out copy of the jordan rules and knock the shit out of him.
I had a feeling that was going to be Zach’s response. Ozzie could have knocked the dude’s eye out, meanwhile he gets a retaliatory featherduster to the chest and acts like the guy was trying to kill him.
Agreed with everyone else—let the kids play!
Also, my only real hockey skill was poking at the goalie and hoping that the puck squirted into the net, so I was not a fan of the defenseman drilling me in return. But it’s part of the game, the give and take from offense to defense.
poke his eye out i say. riberio wears a visor anyways. im sure osgood wasnt trying to bash him in the face, but riberio was trying to pull his best donatello impression and bash him with this stick.
this is why the stands are empty. too much objectivity. this is subjectivity. this is detroit hockey. the red wings. im very upset with all of you. i feel like the native american (actually an italian dude) when he sees young people throw bags of garbage out their car window. right now, theres a tear streaming down my face reading what you write.
