Bonzi Wells has been killing Nawlins all night

The Spurs look like they don’t want to lose tonight. Fair enough.

Right now, with about five minutes left, CP3 has 31 points on 13-22 shooting and eight dimes with one turnover. In the playoffs, he’s averaging 12 dimes and 1.29 turnovers.

Chris Paul is very very good, but he’s not yet great.

What else can the guy do?

ALSO: I could say a lot of negative things about tonight’s BoSox-Tigers game or the series in general, but we just can’t get four strikeouts at the top of the order from Grandy. That’s horrible.

ALSO: The Wings are a killing force the likes of which the world has never seen.

Wheres tony parker’s stat line? who won the ballgame? he needs to win in round 2 and at least make an nba finals appearance. A few great games (even in the playoffs) put him at the level of Baron Davis, not Magic Johnson. If the hornets make the finals or win this series and give the lakers fits then i’ll allow that cp3 is a top 5 player in the league, until then, no.

  2. Kenny Says:

I don’t care if they lose 3 straight by 20 and lose this series. At this point I definitely think Paul is a top 5 player in this league right now. Yea if we are talking about his legacy or where he stands in history as a player we obviously need a much larger body of work, including playoff success.

But just talking about who the best players were for this past year, there’s no doubt in my mind he’s a top 5 player.

I appreciate pat’s perspective that everybody is trying to annoint the guy despite the fact that he’s never really won anything at the NBA level, but come on you can’t tell me there’s another point gaurd in the NBA playing at this level night in and night out.

kenny and jerry define people who jump on bandwagons as soon as someone have a good year.

jerry and kenny were both, two nights ago, telling me how west is the best big man in the nba. i laughed at them both. if cp3 blows out his knee youll both look like idiots. until he wins something and has some longevity, hes no better than chauncey in my books. how many rings he have? give me derek fisher. thats all im saying.

can we get some actual redwigns reporting? 7 straight wins. undefeated at home. look dominant, however, have not played the best of the west (dallas beat those teams…) what does this mean? im not sure, i like winning but would prefer a challenge (wait, would i really want this serises to go to 7? no bloody likely) especially if we have to face the flightless birds.

i dont know how we match up agaisnt pitt or philly. we have to be deeper than both and have better defense. but goaltending is how it really breaks down. is ozzie this good? or is our defense this good? could syd or brieere dominate us?

i defeintly like our matchup agasint dallas, ribeiro is really good, but hes their best player, and only great player. morrow is ok, lehtinen is overrated. turco is gooood. but we are the better team, by far. i dont expect to sweep them, but i defeintly expect a series W over dallas.

Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Kevin Garnett are all better than CP3. U can maybe argue about duncan because he’s been struggling but he’s proven to be the best big man in the league for the last 11 years so i dont’ want to hear it. Then you can start to argue about Dwayne Wade (CHAMPION!), Manu Ginoboli (look at what he does when he gets 40 minutes),

Dwight Howard is putting up #’s that are unheard of for a center in the last 5 years or so, but you guys aren’t arguing he’s one of the 5 best players in the league.

I guess everyone who knows basketball agrees with you guys since CP3 was all NBA, which awards the top 5 players in the league, and he is probably on that level for this season, but dwayne wade was hurt, this guy or that guy had a down year, i just don’t think you can annoint the guy so soon.

Look, i’m not disputing Paul is the best PG in the league right now, but Baron Davis was the best PG in the league when he took Charlotte deep in the playoffs a couple times and was still very young. A back injury and loss of passion for the game and now he’s a dynamic, talented but not GREAT pg.

In 5 years, the 3 best players in the league will probably be Lebron, CP3 and Dwight Howard, but i’m not one to count their chickens before they are hatched.

Wasn’t stephon Marbury considered the next coming of the great PG’s as well?

The VERY best example of this. GRANT HILL. Wasn’t he next Oscar Roberston? What makes the greatest players so great is that they do it for more than one season or one playoffs.

I really think chris paul has a wonderful chance to be a star player for the next 10 years or so, but before he does it, i don’t consider him great.

In the end, i think i just disagree with the comparisons to magic and the greatest pg’s of all time and all that nonsense when he hasn’t done much of anything yet besides put up some solid #’s for a few seasons.

    1. That statement about West is completely untrue. Maybe you had that conversation with somebody else. I think David West is playing at a really high level right now and is a little underrated, and is among the better powerforwards in the league, but I would never claim he was the best big man in the league.

    2. Paul is way better than chauncey. Chauncey has been good the last 3 games, and actually head to head he matches up well with paul because of his size but in terms of overall impact on the game paul is better.

I don’t really mind being accused of jumping on the bandwagon, considering the dude just finished second in the mvp voting and was named first team all nba I’d say i have plenty of company.

  7. Kenny Says:

posted my last comment before i saw pat’s thread.

I agree completely that there is no way to determine what paul’s career will bring. I’m just saying the way he’s playing right now, he’s playing as well as anyone in the league.

  8. sloan Says:

i won’t speak for kenny, but i think pat and zach are confusing what i’m saying. i’m saying chris paul is right now playing the best basketball of anyone in the league, in a virtual tie with kobe bryant. i’d argue he deserved the mvp because kobe has better players around him. (was the david west line from zach a joke? i’ve never said anything like that, though west has turned himself into a good player.)(wait, kenny already denied that, maybe zach was being funny.)

i’m obviously not saying he’s proven anything on a magic johnson/isiah thomas level as far a career/as a champion goes, and if he blows his knee tomorrow than i’ll be sad we get denied watching him. but so what? for a while, grant hill was one of the best players in the league, and then his career was screwed. that doesn’t take away what he previously did.

i think what paul is doing is unique from a marbury/bdavis who has great scoring talent because paul is also an incredible, incredible playmaker. he’s making ty chandler look like shawn kemp.

  9. sloan Says:

also, i apologize for not saying more about the wings, but i know so little about the NHL that i just sort of sit back and watch, then get worried. then we win, then i’m happy.

  10. zachary Says:

how did i forget? the penguins also have hossa. i dont like our chances against them at all.
